1. Acceptance

By using this website you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site. We may update these terms from time to time; the version on this page is the one that applies.

2. What this site is for

This site publishes research and general information about how cryptocurrency is bought, sold, held and regulated in Jamaica. It is written for adults, for general information, and to help readers ask better questions of licensed professionals.

It is not personalised. We do not know your income, your obligations, your risk tolerance, your tax position or your circumstances, and nothing written here has been tailored to them. Where a decision involves a material amount of money, speak to a licensed financial adviser or a Jamaican accountant.

3. Risk warning

Digital assets are volatile and speculative. Prices can fall sharply and you can lose the entire amount you put in. Past performance tells you nothing about future results.

You should also understand the specific Jamaican position. Cryptocurrencies are not legal tender in Jamaica. The Bank of Jamaica has publicly stated that it neither issues nor backs virtual currencies, does not regulate or supervise them, and has not authorised any entity to operate a virtual currency platform, and that individuals engaging with them do so at their own risk. There is currently no Jamaican licensing regime in force for virtual asset service providers and no compensation scheme covering losses on a crypto platform. If a platform fails, freezes withdrawals or ceases serving Jamaican customers, no Jamaican authority has jurisdiction to make you whole.

Never commit money you cannot afford to lose, and never borrow to buy a volatile asset.

4. Accuracy and currency of information

We take real care with what we publish, verify against primary sources where they exist, and date every table. Even so, the information on this site is provided on an "as is" basis without warranty of any kind, express or implied.

Fees, limits, product features, country availability and regulatory positions change without notice, sometimes overnight. Figures quoted are the published rates or the observed results at the time we checked. Always verify current terms on the operator's own website, and current regulatory positions on the regulator's own website, before you act.

Where we could not verify something, we say so on the page rather than asserting it. Where we give an opinion, it is labelled as our judgement. If you find an error, please write to contact@jamaica-crypto.com — corrections get priority.

5. Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are commercial partnerships. If you open an account through one of them, we may receive a fee at no additional cost to you. This is how the research is funded.

Those arrangements do not affect our scoring, our rankings or what we write. Our method, including the scored dimensions and their weightings, is published in full on how we review, and we publish the drawbacks of the platforms we rank highest alongside their strengths. All outbound links carry a nofollow attribute.

6. Third-party websites

This site links to exchanges, regulators, government bodies and other publications. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for their content, availability, security or practices, and a link is not an endorsement of everything on the destination.

Once you follow an outbound link, that operator's own terms and privacy policy govern your relationship with them. Read them. In particular, read a platform's withdrawal terms before you deposit anything.

7. No client relationship

Reading this site, or emailing us, does not create an advisory, fiduciary, agency or client relationship of any kind. We cannot act for you, hold funds for you, trade for you or intervene with a third party on your behalf.

Anyone who contacts you claiming to trade, invest or recover funds on behalf of this site is not associated with us. We will never contact you first asking for money, credentials, a recovery phrase, a one-time code or remote access to a device.

8. Intellectual property

The text, research, tables, design, logo and code on this site are our own work and are protected by copyright. You are welcome to quote short passages with a clear credit and a link to the page you took them from. Republishing pages in whole or substantial part, or using our content to train a commercial model without permission, is not permitted. Third-party names and marks belong to their owners and are used for identification only.

9. Acceptable use

Do not attempt to interfere with the site or its infrastructure, scrape it in a way that degrades service for others, or use it in connection with anything unlawful. Do not present our content as your own or imply that we endorse a product, platform or scheme.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any loss or damage — including any trading loss, loss of profit, loss of data or consequential loss — arising from your use of this site or from reliance on anything published on it. You alone are responsible for your financial decisions.

Nothing in these terms excludes any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

11. Tax

Tax treatment depends entirely on your own circumstances and on rules that change. Our crypto tax page is general information about the Jamaican landscape and the questions worth asking, not advice about your position. Speak to a Jamaican tax practitioner before a significant disposal, and keep your own records.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Jamaica. Nothing in them affects any statutory rights you have as a consumer in your own jurisdiction.
